Suntory lists 'East Sea' on website

Suntory Holdings Ltd. listed the "East Sea" along with the "Sea of Japan" on its website for the body of water bordered by Japan, North and South Korea and Russia, but deleted the reference Friday after receiving complaints.

The company had used the reference to the East Sea, favored by Seoul, on a Web page since April to explain the name of South Korean spirits that Suntory imports and sells domestically, according to company officials.

In a notice posted on its website Friday, Suntory said the reference did not indicate its views regarding the name of the body of water, adding, "We deeply apologize for making our customers feel uncomfortable because of a mistake in our checks."
