Elderly man gets 18-year term for abusing English group girls

TOKYO (majirox news) — An 81-year-old man who sexually abused two pre-teen girls visiting his home to take part in an English conversation group was sentenced on Sept.6 by the Tokyo District Court to 18 years imprisonment, a year longer than prosecutors had sought.

Yasutomo Obana was found guilty of a number of charges, including rape resulting in injury.

“You used your position to take advantage of the lack of sexual awareness and immature judgment ability on the part of the girls to carry out what was a foul crime,” Presiding Judge Ikuo Toishi told Obana.

Toishi praised the girls for their testimony in court and slammed Obana for his behavior.

“Their statements were sound and it is unthinkable that they were falsified,” the judge said, referring to the girls’ testimony before turning his attention to Obana. “You used the bodies of still young children as tools for your own sexual satisfaction in an extremely malicious manner.”

Toishi added that Obana’s imprisonment was vital despite his advanced age as conviction for the crime came within just six months after his release from prison upon serving a sentence for similar crimes.

“A long prison sentence is unavoidable,” the presiding judge said.

Court records showed that Obana raped and sexually abused the girls at his home from around 2009 until March 2010 despite knowing they were both under 13.
